E3’s staff has provided expertise on a variety of geothermal projects totaling more than 2,000 megawatts of electric capacity. The services provided include pre-financing due diligence, acquisition and divestiture assistance, project turnaround, asset valuations and appraisals, operations management consulting, environmental permitting and site assessments, development assistance, and dispute resolution support. Our team members have worked with several technologies, including single flash, dual flash, triple flash, Ormat Binary Cycle, Ormat Hybrid Cycle utilizing Fuji and Mitsubishi turbines, and Turbine Air Systems (TAS) binary power cycle.

Portfolio review for divestiture

E3 provided independent engineering services, including a review of historical and projected production, O&M costs, capital expenditures and resource evaluations for a portfolio of geothermal assets being offered in a minority equity sale. The assets included the Beowawe facility in Nevada (18 MW), the Coso I and Coso II facilities in California (total 302 MW) and the Dixie Valley facility in Nevada (67 MW).

Independent engineering services to support acquisition

E3 provided due diligence services in support of an acquisition of the facility. The facility is a nominal (gross) 23 MW binary geothermal project, consisting of 10 Ormat OECs, and five active production wells. E3’s review included a review of historical and projected production, O&M costs, capital expenditures, and plant conditions.

Geothermal Project, Salton Sea Field Imperial County, California

Independent engineering services in support of DOE Loan Guarantee Program

E3 provided due diligence services to the Department of Energy’s Loan Guarantee Program office to ensure that this proposed 50 MW geothermal energy project was viable and achievable.   The Project is located in the Salton Sea geothermal area and utilizes a triple-flash geothermal cycle.  E3’s scope included reviewing the power cycle design and materials, production well and collection system design, interconnection requirements, capital costs and construction schedule and financial projections.  Additionally, an E3 team member served as the project manager for the pre-financing due diligence and construction monitoring for the project.

pre-finance due diligence services for ING in support of a bank financing. The facility is a 10 megawatt binary geothermal power facility, utilizing one Ormat Energy Converter (OEC). The OEC unit was installed in spring of 2013, as a replacement for 50 UTC Power PureCycle systems.
